DON'T TOUCH MY PFD

(Hurricane Dave)

Hurricane Dave

If you’ve never lived in Alaska, you probably won’t understand this song. It’s about the Permanent Fund Dividend, or PFD, a big check that all Alaskans receive every October. Right now the state is in serious financial straits, and its governor and legislature are grappling with possible solutions. Some politicians are looking to the Permanent Fund as a revenue source, which would reduce the annual dividend. While the song is written with Hurricane Dave's trademark humor, its message is weighty. But is the singer serious, or are the words satirical? The listener will have to decide.
This single was recorded and mixed at The Man Cave in Anchorage, with Michael Faubion at the helm.
Instruments and vocals: Hurricane Dave, acoustic guitar, harmonica, lead and background vocals; Tom Torvie, bass, background vocals; Michael Faubion, percussion, background vocals; Matt Faubion, background vocals; Rosie O'Doggie and the Hell Hound Choir, canine cacophony.
Special thanks to Gov. Mike Dunleavy, for dropping a massive cow pie on Alaskan taxpayers and other residents, thus inspiring this song.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Don’t touch my PFD!

We get a big fat check once a year

Just because we live up here.

How you spend it don’t matter to me,

Get an old truck or a new TV.

You can improve the way you live

Or just Pick. Click. Give.

But on this we can all agree:

Keep your hands off my PFD!

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Don’t touch my PFD!

Some want to take part of it away;

The state, it seems, has bills to pay.

Lazy politicians cast an eye

And stick their fingers in the pie.

The last governor gave it a whack;

The new gov says he’s going to pay it back.

That money’s mine, it ain’t no joke.

What do I care if the state goes broke?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Don’t touch my PFD!

So we’re in the midst of a nasty fight

In a state that leans just to the right.

The crazy irony is this:

Ain’t nothing more socialist!

Now, you and I will get along just fine,

Steal my woman, drink my wine,

Lead a moose to my apple tree,

But don’t you touch my PFD!

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa

Don’t touch my PFD!

Don’t touch my PFD!

Hands off! (Don’t touch my PFD!)

Sic ’em, boys! (Don’t touch my PFD!)

That money’s mine…  (Don’t touch my PFD!)

Don’t touch my PFD!

Don’t touch my PFD!

(Fade out.)
